1. MSc Bioinformatics: One-year course

Applications are invited from students with backgroundsin biological sciences, medical sciences, pharmaceuticalsciences, computing sciences, information sciences,mathematics, engineering, chemistry or physics for thiscourse which is delivered in a collaboration between theFaculty of Computing Sciences and Engineering and theFaculty of Health and Life Sciences.

The aim of this course is to provide students withknowledge of the various types of problems addressed inbioinformatics, skills in the computational techniques usedand insight into their theoretical basis. On the completionof the programme, students are ready to embark upon a PhDin Bioinformatics, or to take up a position in abioinformatics related group, either in industry or inacademia.

This programme provides a bridge for students withdifferent backgrounds to cross over their existingdisciplines and come into this exciting new field; it isnot necessary for students to have a background in morethan one relevant discipline. Part time mode is alsoavailable for this programme.

2. MSc Computational Intelligence & Robotics:One-year course

Applications are invited from students with an honoursdegree in Computer Science or a relatedscientific/engineering discipline (e.g. Engineering,Mathematics, Physics, Cognitive Science) for this programmedelivered by the Centre for Computational Intelligence. Inaddition to an appropriate degree, applicants should havebasic mathematics ability and computer programming skills.Applications are also welcomed from candidates withindustrial experience sufficient to earn accredited priorlearning.

The course aims to provide students with the knowledgeand skills necessary to solve problems using ComputationalIntelligence techniques such as fuzzy logic, neuralnetworks, evolutionary computing and knowledge basedsystems; and to address the issues associated withdeveloping mobile robots that react intelligently to theirenvironment.

This postgraduate qualification will allow itsgraduates substantially enhanced career or researchprospects.
