The Research Doctorate is the highest academic title that can bebestowed in Italy. It is equivalent to the degree of Doctor ofPhilosophy (PhD) in Anglo-Saxon countries. The principal objectiveof a Research Doctorate Program is to educate graduate students oncarrying out pure or applied scientific research, in the ambit ofthe chosen discipline.
