Ireland: PhD Studentships, The Charles Parsons Energy Research Award, University College Cork


The Hydraulics and Maritime Research Centre in partnership with the Marine Institute was successful in the recent competition for the prestigious Charles Parsons Energy Research Awards. These awards were established by the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources as an initiative to develop Irish research capacity in sustainable energy.

The Charles Parsons Energy Research Award to the H.M.R.C. will support world class research and development in the area of ocean energy utilisation. The appointments made through this award will supplement the team established with funding from the Marine Institute under the Blue Power Initiative and further build on the long experience of the Centre in ocean energy research.

The three Ph.D. Studentships will be in the areas of wave and tidal energy device modelling, device response hydrodynamics, device array modelling, electrical system modelling and power take-off.

The potential Ph.D. students should have a high honours primary degree in engineering or a cognate discipline.

Ph.D. Annual Stipend : €18,000 (plus fees, including full fees for non-EU students)
