Ireland: PhD Studentship in Machine Translation, Dublin City University

Following a recent award by Science Foundation Ireland, we are pleased toannounce openings for two PhD students on the ‘ATTEMPT’ project,’All Trees’ Efficient Models of Parsing & Translation. The successfulcandidates will undertake research at the National Centre for LanguageTechnology in the School of Computing, Dublin City University,Ireland. This project has been developed in collaboration withDr. Khalil Sima’an of the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
The successful candidates will have a First-class primary degreeand/or a Masters in a numerate discipline. Strong programming skillsare essential. Knowledge of Machine Learning, Statistical methods,Parsing and/or MT techniques would be extremely advantageous,especially in the areas of Data-Oriented Parsing and Tree-based modelsof Translation.
Each student will receive a stipend of Euro 16K in year 1, rising to Euro17K in year 3. Their fees will be paid (currently Euro 3,584 p.a.), and agenerous hardware and travel allowance will be provided. The total packagefor each student amounts to well over Euro 60K over 3 years. These PhDpositions are available from 1st September 2006.
