Germany: Research Associate Position in Numerical Modeling of Turbulent Flows, The Technical University Munich
Research associate position: “Numerical modeling of turbulent flows with particle methodsâ€
The Institute of Aerodynamics in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the TU Munich offers a fully-funded research associate position (BAT IIa) within the newly established Microfluidics group. The position will be supported by the German Science Foundation, via the Emmy-Noether Program “Unified Lagrangian particle models for the simulation of complex fluids and multi-scale flow phenomenaâ€.
The successful applicant is expected to conduct research leading to a PhD in the area of numerical and theoretical analysis of particle methods (Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics, Dissipative Particle Dynamics) for the simulation of turbulent flows. He/she will work on the computational implementation of Lagrangian turbulence models on a 3D parallelized particle algorithm already available in our group. Particular focus will be on the development of Lagrangian stochastic and/or ’sub-particle’ models analogous to the so-called ‘implicit LES’ widely used in Eulerian mesh-based schemes. This work will be performed in tight cooperation with the Turbulence Modeling group headed by Prof. Adams within the same Department.
The ideal candidate will have a very strong knowledge of programming and computer simulation techniques (specially C/C++) and a solid background in physics, mathematics and /or engineering.
This position offers the opportunity to work in a young and motivated growing team on Microfluidics and to interact with international leading-edge researchers working on multi-scale methods for complex fluids. Financial resources for short-term stay at collaborative centers as well for attending workshops and conferences will be available.
The Technical University Munich is an Equal Opportunity employer. Women, minorities and candidates with disabilities are therefore strongly encouraged to apply.
Interested candidates should submit a full curriculum vitae, covering letter together with academic records (pdf.file, please) at the email address given below.
