Germany: PhD Positions on Electronic Design for Energy Coupling Into a Micro Plasma, Fraunhofer Institute, Stuttgart

The project goal is a defined chemical modification of polymeric walls in small cavities of nanoliter size by low temperature plasma. Your aim will be to optimize the means of the energy coupling into the plasma, gas composition, its pressure and flow. The feedback for the optimization will be provided by suitable plasma diagnostics and physico-chemical surface characterization. Different concepts of energy transfer in the kHz, MHz, and GHz range are to be tested.

You are expected to have a completed university degree (Master or Diploma) in physics or engineering- expertise and hands-on experience in design of RF and MW electronic equipment- basic knowledge in plasma physics or being able to acquire it in a short time
working knowledge of English and German
some knowledge in organic chemistry is a bonus

Working environment
Our Institute is one of some 60 Institutes of the Fraunhofer Society, providing applied research to private and public contractors. The Fraunhofer IGB works on a wide range of topics including biology and medicine, material science, and plasma chemistry. You will work within a group of physicists and chemists, which is engaged in several applied projects, mainly in the field of low temperature plasma surface modification for biological and medical applications in cooperation with other departments at the Institute and with industrial enterprises and universities. The graduation procedure will be supervised by a physicist of this group in a close cooperation with a professor of technical engineering at the University of Stuttgart.

What we offer
Working in a renowned multidisciplinary group with an access to a great equipment base
A competitively paid position. The contract duration will be two years with an extension option of one more year.

A doctorate from a Fraunhofer Institute opens you both an academic and an industrial career.
