The Institute for Applied Mathematics (Prof. Dr. Peter Knabner) of theFriedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg is offering a PhDposition in the framework of the interdisciplinary research projectKORA (www.natural-attenuation.de).
The subject deals with modelling, numerical solution and softwaredevelopment for the simulation of reactive transport processes inporous media, describing the fate of pollutants in soils. The modelsconsist of nonlinear systems of partial differential equations.
The candidate should be able to work and communicate within a team anddo independently parts of the project. The work should lead to aPh. D. degree in the field of numerical mathematics/scientificcomputing or mathematical modelling/analysis.
Candidates should have a degree (MSc-level or equivalent) in the areasof applied and computational mathematics, physics, engineering or thegeo-sciences with a profound knowledge of mathematical modellingand/or scientific computing. Fluency in either German or English isrequired.
Salary is paid according to BAT IIa/2. An increase is possible by theengagement in tutorials.
