The CoCE II project is funded by the German government for the coming 3years and aims at developing concepts and strategies for theconservation and use of ecosystem goods and services provided by thelandscapes of SW Ethiopia, of which wild Coffea arabica forests are animportant element. The project is carried out by an interdisciplinaryteam of researchers form the natural and social sciences at theUniversity of Bonn in collaboration with the Ethiopian Institute forBiodiversity Conservation, the Addis Ababa University and otherimportant Ethiopian partners.
We are seeking a qualified doctoral candidate to undertake research oneconomic aspects of the “agro-coffee-forest” systems in an area of SWEthiopia which has the potential to be designated as biosphere reservein the coming years. The research topics can range from “costs andbenefits of a prospective protected area” to “payments for environmentalservices”. The aim is to support the overall goal of the subproject tocome up with appropriate incentives for the conservation and use of wildCoffea arabica populations in their natural habitat, the montanerainforests of Ethiopia, and to deliver recommendations to the Ethiopianpublic with realistic advice for implementation.
We expect interested and qualified candidates to submit (until Wed.,Sept 23, 2006, 17:00 Hrs)a cover letter, cv, and an outline researchproposal of not more than 8 pages which demonstrates their knowledge ofthe Ethiopian context, suggested research topic/question, relevance ofthe of the research question, methods applied, expected results.
