This is a call for applications for Ph.D. student position in the fieldof history and sociology of Astroparticle Physics.

The Department of Nuclear and Particle Physics and the Department ofHistory and Philosophy of Science at the University of Geneva,Switzerland, are opening a Ph. D student position related to a Europeanproject in the field of the history of Astroparticle physics.

The candidate is expected to collect and analyse data and documentspertaining to a study of the emergence of Astroparticle physics as adiscipline in European countries and worldwide. He (she) shall alsoparticipate in a study aiming at assessing how Astroparticle physics ispresently reviewed and funded by the Swiss National Science Foundationand other agencies, and how one could improve the coordination ofreviewing and funding of large European Astroparticle physicsinfrastructures. During his (her) research, he (she) will explore thearchives of various European agencies and research institutes,participate to meetings, and interview key scientific and administrativeactors.

Funding period: Depending on the scientific training and curriculum ofthe candidate, this is a one or two years position with a plannedextension for two more years. All travel expenses and other costsrelated to the project will be covered.

Requirements: The successful candidate shall have a fairly goodknowledge of particle physics, astrophysics, and cosmology and someacquaintance with the methods and issues of history and sociology ofscience. Good English speaking and writing skills are mandatory.
