Funded Research Studentships

School of Electronics

The School of Electronics invites applications for 2full-time research studentships leading to the award of PhDin the areas of:

  • Networked Control Systems
  • Control of Industrial PEM Fuel Cells

from applicants with good honours degrees inEngineering/Physics/Applied Sciences/Maths/Computing orother related numerate subjects.

The two chosen applicants will be registered normallyfor MPhil, progressing to PhD as soon as possible after thefirst year, and completing their PhD after 3 years ofresearch working on projects:

  • Analysis and design of networkedcontrol systems with uncertainties (Ref:RP1)
  • Real-Time Computer Modelling and Control of IndustrialPEM Fuel Cells (Ref:RP2)

Successful candidates will, subject to a satisfactoryannual review, be paid a maintenance bursary of £9,000 perannum, and have their research course fees paid by theSchool (£3,010) per annum. In the case of overseasstudents, they will have their fees paid by the school(£8,915) and receive a bursary of £5,645 per annum. Inaddition, the School of Electronics has a policy ofengaging research students as part timelecturers/demonstrators where possible.

Those successful will join an internationally recognisedresearch group with excellent research facilities. We havestrong collaboration with industry, research laboratoriesand other academic institutions. On attaining the PhD, theresearch experience gained will provide an excellent basisfor a career in industry and academia.
