PhD Studentship in Computational physics: Materials for Hydrogen Energetics
Closing date: Feb 28 (Tue), 2006
A PhD position is available immediately in the field of computational condensed matter physics, specifically in the project related to the research of novel materials for hydrogen storage. The main attention will be paid to study of carbon-based nanostructures (fullerenes, onions and their polymer modifications), their electronic properties and their abilities to effectively accumulate hydrogen. The project objectives are within the goals of the reselected national Centre of Excellence in Computational Nanoscience (Finland) - www.fyslab.hut.fi/comp. The project implies the use of first-principles calculations (probably both static and dynamic ones) as well as kinetic Monte-Carlo simulations.
The applicant should have a solid background in solid state physics and quantum mechanics, and a strong interest in Theoretical/Computational Physics.
Applicants should send curriculum vitae, a list of all university courses taken and grades obtained, and names of two referees (along with their contact details). These should be sent by e-mail to mgc@fyslab.hut.fi or Dr. Maria Ganchenkova, COMP/Laboratory of Physics, Helsinki University of Technology, PO Box 1100, 02015, Finland
