For the academic year 2006/07, 12 scholarships for non-EU students are available.

Without prejudice to the respect of high academic standards, in order to ensure a geographical balance across third-country students, the consortium has to respect the following basic criteria when selecting third-country students:

  • no more than 25% of the selected third-country students should come from the same country.
  • no more than 10% of the selected third-country students should come from the same institution.

Underthe "Asian window", the WOP-P consortium has the possibility to select12 additional Asian students who will be granted an Erasmus Mundusscholarship to start their study in the academic year 2006/2007. Thecountry distribution of the 12 additional students for 2006 must be:

  • 6 Indian nationals;
  • 3nationals from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, East Timor,Indonesia, Laos, Maldives, Mongolia, Nepal, North Korea, Pakistan,Philippines, Sri Lanka or Vietnam;
  • 1 Chinese national;
  • 1 Malaysian national;
  • 1 Thai national.

Inthe subsequent years, the consortium will reserve 13 to 18 places forthird-country students. In addition, the WOP-P consortium may have thepossibility to select 8 or 9 additional Asian students every year.

The Coordinating Committee of the WOP-P Consortium will propose the best applicants from third countries to European Commission scholarships.

Grant holders may not come from any country of the EU or any associated country with the EU. Applicants to Erasmus Mundus scholarships may not have spent more than one year as student or worker in any EU country or any associated country to the EU for the last five years.

The European Commission should publish the list of the selected grant holders in May 2006.
The amount of these scholarships is 21,000 euros/year: a fixed amount (5,000 euros/year) and a monthly amount (1,600 euros per month with a total of 10 months per year).

Students can indicate in the Application form if they want to apply for a scholarship and if their answer is positive, they also should say if under the condition that EU does not provides the grant for them, their application is still maintained or would be withdrawn.
