Europe: PhD Positions in Brain Research

Cortex - Cooperation in Research and Training forEuropean Excellence in the Neurosciences is an EU funded PhD trainingoffered by 8 European research centers in the following locations: Berlin,Bochum, Helsinki, London, Oslo, Prague, Stockholm and Zurich.

We are looking to recruit 14 fellows to work on various projects inneurosciences led by reputable experts in the field. Projects are designedto run 3 years and rotation into cooperating labs are planned. Salary,travel grants and research funding is provided for through the EU grant.

The program is primarily open to EU citizens, but up to 4 non-EU fellowscan be recruited. Applicants need to hold a Master degree or equivalent.

Application deadline is 15 April 2006.

Before applying, carefully read the eligibility criteria and then review the project descriptions of those cortex partners to which you are eligible to apply. Then select the project(s) you want to apply to and send your application directly to the partner(s).

You may apply to as many projects as you are interested in, but realize that you need to send a full application package to each partner. The application package consists of:

  1. Cover sheet
  2. CV incl. education, profession experience, publications, awards and merits, grants etc.
  3. Certified copies of all relevant diplomas and transcripts
  4. Statement of intent: Why are you interested in the project? What previous experience/ expertise do you bring to the project? Devise a possible research set up to tackle the project.
  5. Two letters of recommendation
  6. Proof of proficiency in English (test score or or statement)

Applications will be shortlisted by the research group leaders of the projects. The shortlisted applicants will be invited to present themselves before the steering committee on 1 - 3 June in Helsinki.
