Europe: Erasmus Mundus Fellowships in Master of Bioethics


Nationals coming from all countries other than the 25 EU Member States(Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Finland, France, Greece,Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, the UK, Sweden,Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, CzechRepublic, Slovakia, Slovenia), the EEA-EFTA states (Island,Liechtenstein and Norway) and the candidate countries for accession tothe EU (presently Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey), who are not residentsof any of the above countries, and who have not carried out their mainactivities (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 monthsover the last five years in any of the above countries can apply forthe Erasmus Mundus fellowships. The Erasmus Mundus fellowship consistsof a grant of 5.000 euro and 10 monthly instalments of 1600 euro.

Erasmus fellowships

Although EU students cannot apply for Erasmus Mundusfellowships, the Master offers them a unique opportunity to study in aninternational environment at different EU institutes. The Master offersalso supports applicants in finding financial assistance. Europeanstudents attending EM Master's Courses are entitled to an Erasmusmobility grant according to standard Erasmus rules. As from theacademic year 2005/2006 onwards, European students attending EMMaster's Courses are entitled to one additional Erasmus mobility granteven if they have already received an Erasmus mobility grant before.

In principle, all applicants coming from the Member States ofthe European Union: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark,Estonia, Germany, Greece, Finland, France, Hungary, Ireland, Italy,Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia,Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands, and the United Kingdom, ?theEFTA/EEA countries: Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway; and the candidatecountries Bulgaria, Romania, and Turkey, that are accepted to the fulltime Erasmus Mundus Master of Bioethics will receive an Erasmusfellowship of approx. 1500 euro. No application is needed beforeacceptance to the programme.

Consortium fellowships

The Master offers also fellowships to European students enteringthe full time programme. For the academic year 2006-2007 the Master ofBioethics offers 5 grants of 3.000 euro for students that cannot applyfor the Erasmus Mundus fellowships. These are Consortium fellowshipsand they cover half of the tuition fee.

Applications for these Consortium fellowships should make use of the usual application procedurefor the programme. The consortium of the programme decides aboutacceptance of the applicants. This application does not include afellowship application. Applicants wanting to apply also for thefellowship should complete the annex (Winword) to the application form.

How to Apply

The application deadline for the Master of Bioethics is January 15 fornon-EEA citizens wanting to apply for an Erasmus Mundus fellowship,March 1 for all citizens from non-EEA countries who did not apply forthe Erasmus Munduslowships, June 1 for all countries of the EEA. Theconsortium urges future applicants to apply as soon as possible.

A copy of the K.U.Leuven online application form forinternational students should be completed and required documentsadded: legalized copies of diplomas and transcripts in duplicate (notcopies of legalized copies), a certificate attesting Englishproficiency, a letter of motivation.

All applications from international students are administered by theOffice for International Students and Scholars of K.U.Leuven centralinternational admissions office of K.U.Leuven.

The consortium of the programme decides about acceptance of theapplicants. This application does not include a scholarshipapplication. Applicants wanting to apply also for the Erasmus Mundus scholarship should complete the annex (winword) to the application form.

Please read carefully all instructions before you start your onlineapplication. In the application it should be clearly stated if you willenter the programme as a full time student or as a part time student ). Erasmus Mundus fellowships cannot be used by part time students.

Upon receipt of your complete online application file, we will startthe procedure for evaluation for admission. This whole procedure maytake about 12 weeks.
