Doctoral Scholarships for ICP-Graduates

The ‘ICP Doctoral Scholarships' programme (ICPDOC) financesdoctoral research on a topic of direct relation to the issue of development.The research has to be carried out by promising graduates from an InternationalCourse (ICP), originating from developing countries. These graduates must be linked to alocal university to who the Ph.D. training of the staff member involved is ofstrategic importance. At least two-thirds of the research work takes place inthe South, and one third in Flanders (so-called‘sandwich' model).

The aim of the programme is to reinforce institutions atsouthern universities or research institutions with the assistance ofhigh-quality, high-level Ph.D.s. Another aim is to better valorise theinvestment made by Flemish universities and the Federal Government. At the sametime, the transfer and application of the acquired knowledge in the country oforigin is guaranteed.

Each year, VLIR launches a call for the submission ofdoctoral projects. Selection takes place on a competitive basis. The ICPDoctoral Scholarship is awarded for two years, renewable once.

Applications can be submitted by ICP-graduates of adeveloping country who have earned distinction at least and obtained their ICPdiploma not more than two years ago.
