Doctoral and Postdoctoral Grants, Asian and African Studies, University of Halle


The International Graduate School of   University of Halle, Sectionof Asian and African Studies, has the opportunity to offer thefollowing grants:

  • five PhD grants
  • two post-doc grants.

The grants are all for two years. An extension is possible (oneyear for post-docs and two six-months extensions for PhD grants).Applications can be submitted for shorter terms also.
We explicitly encourage applications by students from Asian and African countries.

Requirements (PhD grants)

  • excellent Masters certificate or equivalent in one of therelevant disciplines: Arabic Studies, Christian Orient, Anthropology,Islamic Studies, Jewish Studies, Japan Studies, South Asian Studies,Bible Studies (Divinity).
  • relevant PhD research project falling into the general framework of the Section
  • letter of consent by a supervisor for PhD thesis
  • grantees are expected to co-operate in the programme of the Section

Requirements (post doc grants)

  • excellent PhD in one of the relevant disciplines
  • grantees are expected to contribute to the programme of the Section by their own scientific input

At present, the Section includes the following departments:Department of History, Language and Literature; Department ofAnthropology and Social Sciences; Department of Political Sciences;Department of Religion and Philosophy.
