Magnetic Properties Experiments on NASA's Phoenix Mission (2007)

A 3-year Ph.D. position is available from November 15, 2005, with theMars-group at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen.
The task of the successful candidate will be to support the Danishparticipation in NASA�s Phoenix Mission (launch 2007). The project willinclude an experimental program with the purpose of preparing theinterpretation of data from the Phoenix Mission. Prototype magnetinstruments will be used to attract different dust samples (natural andsynthetic) and subsequently the samples will be studied with a suite ofdifferent experimental techniques, including some of the techniquesvisible/near infrared spectroscopy, X-ray fluorescence, magnetizationmeasurements and M�ssbauer spectroscopy. Also, data from the MarsExploration Rover mission will be used for this preparation.

Candidates should have a M.Sc. degree in physics or a similar degree(e.g. engineering) with a similar academic level in physics. Thescholarships for the Ph.D. degree are subject to academic approval, andthe candidates will be enrolled in one of the general Ph.D. degreeprogrammes of the Niels Bohr Institute. Salary and appointment terms are inaccordance with the current rules for Ph.D. students.
