In connection with the launching of a large interdisciplinary researchproject, we seek a strong candidate for the 3-year PhD scholarship inthe area of bandgap engineering and modelling of quantum dots. Thesuccessful candidate will have a M.Sc. degree (or equivalent) intheoretical physics, mathematics, or computational chemistry(preferable background is in solid state physics and semiconductorapplications with strong modelling skills). The position involvescomputational aspects of bandstructure calculations such ascalculations of strain, piezoelectric properties, dipole moments,optoelectronic applications, optimization of quantum-confinedsemiconductor heterostructures in terms of geometry and materialchoices. The position includes close collaboration withexperimentalists working under the same research program, as well ascollaboration with colleagues in North America participating in theproject. Previous background in bandstructure methods and modellingtechniques related to that would be looked upon favorably.

The successful candidate will be located in the new building of theUniversity of Southern Denmark (SDU) in Sonderborg and will spend 6months of his/her PhD studies outside of Denmark.
