Denmark: International PhD Studentships in Drug Research at The Danish University of Pharmaceutical
The Drug Research Academy at The Danish University of Pharmaceutical Sciences is pleased to announce that international PhD studentships will be available from 1 December 2006 to encourage young science graduates to embark on a career in drug research. The purpose of the Drug Research Academy is to train the next generation of drug researchers. Emphasis is on integrated research training to enable researchers to conduct innovative drug research in an interdisciplinary and highly integrated environment.
Applications are invited for the three-year studentships from candidates that hold or expect to hold a master’s degree in a field relevant to the following projects:
- Molecular chaperones as stabilisers in protein formulations. Supervisors: Associate Professor Marco van de Weert, The Danish University of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Professor Wim Jiskoot, Leiden/Amsterdam Centre for Drug Research.
- Understanding gastro-intestinal solubilization and absorption of poorly water soluble drug compounds. Supervisors: Associate Professor Anette Müllertz, The Danish University of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Professor Hans Lennernäs, Uppsala University.
- Cytochromes P450 in action: Understanding and prediction through integrative Chemo-/Bioinformatics. Supervisors: Associate Professor Flemming Steen Jørgensen and Assistant Professor Lars Olsen, The Danish University of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professor Nico P.E. Vermeulen and Assistant Professor Chris Oostenbrink, Vrije University, Amsterdam.
- NMR-based metabonomics applied to studies of herbal remedies and medicinal plants. Supervisors: Associate Professor Dan Stærk, The Danish University of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Professor Robert Verpoorte, Leiden University.
Only three out of the four projects will be granted, depending on the qualifications of the applicants.
It is expected that about an equal amount of time is spent at The Danish University of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the institution of the co-supervisor. The candidate should thus be open minded, prepared to interact with people in different scientific environments and have a good level of English skills.
The projects are financed by the Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation. The PhD studentship is to be completed in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the PhD Education and the PhD Degree from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and the Regulations and Guidelines for the Awarding of the PhD Degree by The Danish University of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The terms of employment are stated in the agreement between The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations and the Ministry of Finance.
The PhD study program includes teaching activities and obligatory PhD courses with focus on key elements in drug research.
All interested persons are encouraged to apply for the studentships regardless of age, gender, religion or ethnic origin.
Applications should be marked with reference number 06-323-23.
