Oneof the strongest trends in the world of higher education today is the move toincreased cooperation across national borders. Of particular importance in thisrespect is the need for young scientists and scholars to gain experience andundertake research at universities outside their own countries.

Inorder to promote international cooperation in these fields, Masaryk University has established the Kohn DoctoralScholarship programme. The scholarships are named after Pavel Kohn, theformer owner of much of the property where the new Bohunice campus of theuniversity is situated.

Whocan apply?

Kohn Doctoral Scholarships are opento citizens of the United States of America and of the United Kingdomof Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Applicants must be currently enrolled indoctoral degree programmes. The scholarships are intended to allow theirrecipients to carry out their studies or do research at Masaryk Universityand to contribute to the activities of the departments where they are received.They cover all fields of teaching and research at the university.

Whatdoes a Kohn Doctoral Scholarship cover?

The scholarships have a value of 10,000Kc per month,and are awarded for periods of from three to ten months, depending on thenature of the research or studies that the applicant wishes to pursue.Scholarship holders are exempt from tuition fees. Accommodation, to be paid forby the scholarship recipients, is available in double rooms at the universityhalls of residence. Travel costs and health insurance are also theresponsibility of the scholarship winners.

Applyingfor a Kohn Doctoral Scholarship

The application deadline for thescholarships is 15 November 2006. The selection of successful candidates will bemade by the Rector of Masaryk University and confirmed by the heirs of PavelKohn. The results of the selection process will be made public withoutunreasonable delay.
