Czech: PhD Scholarships for Foreign Students at Czech Technical University


PREAMBLE

In support of scientific activity in R&D the Rector of CTUannounces the establishment of scholarships for international PhD.students. The scholarships are intended for international PhD. studentswilling to pursue research activity and study in a PhD programme inEnglish language at CTU and who have shown qualities that make themworthy of such a scholarship.

In accordance withthe method for distributing non-investment expenditure from the statebudget for 2003, a sum not exceeding 0.1% of the funds set aside foreducation will be allocated for scholarships for students coming tostudy in PhD programmes at CTU in Prague.

PROCEDURE FOR AWARDING SCHOLARSHIPS
a)The scholarship is awarded in accordance with the Act No. 111/1998Coll., applying to universities. It is paid from a scholarship fundaccording to § 91, Art. (3) (b) of the Act.

b)For this purpose, a scholarship fund is established at the Rectorate ofCTU in order to cover the costs of board and lodging up to 8 000 Kč.The funding of the scholarship is divided between funds of theRectorate and funds of an applicable CTU Faculty.

c)In accordance with the Rector's directive No. 8/2001 from November 12,2001 about the tuition fees for foreign students the dean can removethe usual tuition fee for PhD. students (up to $6000 USD/year) as apart of this award.

d) The scholarship isawarded to students for 6-12 months. In the case of excellent progressby the student, it can be prolonged up to maximal duration,corresponding to the standard length of PhD study.

e)The PhD student who wins the scholarship of CTU, must follow theuniversity "Study and Test Rules for PhD Study". An individual studyplan agreeing with Art. 30, Point 1 of the "Rules" is binding and it isa part of Application.

f) Students must make an Applicationto the Department of International Relations of the CTU Rectorate. Theapplication must be made by November 30th for study starting in thesummer semester of a given academic year, and by May 31th for studystarting in the winter semester of the following academic year. Theapplication form is available on the web-site of the InternationalRelations Office. The parts of an Application are:
- the c.v. of the applicant,
- a list of publications,
- the name and department of the supervisor,
- an individual study plan proposed for supervisor's department and the expected professional results of the study,
-a recommendation of the Faculty, which is also a commitment to providethe relevant part of the scholarship noted in section b) above.

g)The Rector will decide the awarding of a scholarship on the basis ofrecommendations of a commission, convened by the Vice-Rector forInternational Relations in collaboration with Vice-Rector for Scienceand Research. The commission will meet by January 15th, and July 15threspectively, each year.

h) As an outputof international PhD study, there must be a publication of results inan internationally reviewed magazine, technical journal, or asuccessful application for an international grant. A copy of thepublication or grant application must be an attachment to a short finalreport about residency, which is further elaborated by the hostingdepartment and delivered to the Department for Science and Research ofthe student's CTU Faculty not later than three months after terminationof residency.
