Canada: PhD Studentships in Theoretical/Computational Chemistry
Two positions are opened for graduate students starting September 2006. Canadian students from within or outside Québec, as well as foreign students are encouraged to contact Prof. Radu Iftimie by email at radu.ion.iftimie@umontreal.ca .
We are mostly interested in motivated, open-minded students who feel they will enjoy working with a computer more than working in an experimental lab. We have both theoretical (i.e.: with a pen and paper for math-loving dudes) and computational (i.e.: for those who like coding or doing experiments “in silico”). We also have a number of projects in collaboration with our experimental colleagues, so if you want to taste both experiment and theory, you can do it !
Computational chemistry lies somewhere at the intersection between chemistry, physics, biology, applied math and computer science. Students who have a background in Physics, in Applied Math, or in Computer Science and want to move toward Computational Chemistry, you are very encouraged to contact me ! Similarly, students from Biology or Biochemistry who feel that first principles investigations of biologically-relevant phenomena is an intellectually pleasing exercise, do contact me !
Non-francophone prospective students, please be advised that:
* Although the language of instruction at Université de Montréal is French, there is no language requirement for admission in a graduate program
* Graduate students are encouraged to learn French while in Montréal; however, non-francophone students should not consider their lack of knowledge of the French language as an impediment to graduating with a Master or a PhD degree from our University. In addition, Montréal is a bilingual city and you will have no problem living here if you only speak English.
