Belgium: Research Position in Development and Application of Mathematic Modelling Techniques on Professional Sportsmen
We’re looking for the brains to improve the body
How the human body behaves isn’t only a result of one’s genes or the environment. There are any number of ways the body can respond to factors like medication, food and training – to name but a few. Until now however, calculating the precise impact these external factors have on a given individual has often been an inexact science - since most systems can only treat human beings as a statistical average of the population.
BioRICS, a spin-off of the K.U.Leuven, applies modern engineering techniques to the body of world top athletes. BioRICS’ software and systems allow scientists to monitor and predict how an individual body reacts to physical and mental variables. For the first time, scientists can anticipate and improve an individual’s status in real time. The benefits to sports, fitness and healthcare are potentially enormous. And we also believe our technology has the potential to improve the general population’s overall wellness, physical health and mental strength.
We are currently looking for a number of exceptional people to join our growing team in Leuven. Bio-engineers, civil engineers, industrial engineers, physicists, mathematicians. Whatever your background, if you have a great CV, are handy with Matlab, C, MySQL and/or Oracle and want to rise to the top of your field through pioneering work in the application mathematic modelling techniques on humans, this is an opportunity unlike any other. Send your details, along with a strong motivational letter to info[ at ]biorics.com - we look forward to sharing our vision with you and finding out how you can help us make it happen.
Profile of the candidate:
Bio-engineer, Civil engineer, industrial engineer, Physicist, Mathematician, industrial engineer, … with an interest in the development and application of mathematic modelling techniques on humans, and with a strong interest in sports.
Linguistics: Dutch, English
Software: Knowledge of Matlab is a necessity, possibly C, C++, MySQL, Oracle,
Driving licence: desirable
Strong motivation for this application
Allowance: Fee of scientific assistant at University level
Job description:
The job embraces the analysis and modelling of experimental measurement data of professional sportsmen at a high level, to enable accurate prediction of the physical and mental preparedness at a certain moment. Here for, the sportsmen are on-line monitored during training, whereby amongst other heart rate, blood variables and delivered effort are recorded. Because every human being reacts in a unique way, models that incorporate this individual character but remain a broad application basis, are chosen for this application.
