Australia: Postgraduate Research Scholarships from Queen Elizabeth Hospital

Queen Elizabeth Hospital (TQEH) Research Foundation: Postgraduate Research Scholarships

Closing Date: 18/11/2005

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (TQEH) campus, of the Central Northern Adelaide Health Service (CNAHS) on Woodville Road, Woodville South, has a substantial research base, with a large number of University Department and Hospital Unit research arms forming the Basil Hetzel Institute (BHI). Through its teaching and research affiliation with the Universities of Adelaide and South Australia, TQEH provides valuable basic and clinical research training opportunities at its site.

The Scholarship scheme is an application-based, competitive program that enables postgraduate students with research promise to undertake a higher degree at an institution of higher education. Subject to certain conditions, Masters degree candidates may study for a maximum of two years, and PhD candidates for three years.

TQEH Research Foundation Postgraduate Research Scholarship holders will receive an indexed, tax-free stipend in the vicinity of $18,837 (2005 rate).

To supplement the scholarship, a maintenance allowance of $1,000 per annum is made available to the TQEH Department in which the project is to be undertaken.

To be eligible under the TQEH Research Foundation Postgraduate Research Scholarship scheme, applicants must meet citizenship, residency and academic criteria, detailed at the website below.

Further information and application forms are available from the website below or contact the Gwenda Graves, TQEH on ph: (08) 8222 6870 or at the email address below.

Intending applicants who are not currently enrolled as a research higher degree student at Flinders University must also apply for research higher degree candidature.

Appendix II: Applicant eligibility requirements
1. To be eligible for a TQEH Research Foundation Postgraduate Research Scholarship, an applicant must fulfil the following conditions:
(a) be an Australian citizen; or have been granted permanent resident status by 18th November 2005 or be an overseas student holding a valid student visa;
(b) be a medical or dental graduate eligible for registration in South Australia, or an appropriately qualified science graduate or health professional eligible for enrolment in a University higher degree;
(c) be undertaking a Masters or Doctoral degree in 2005;

(f) negotiate a research training place and an appropriate supervisor within a TQEH Department. This normally occurs as part of the Postgraduate Research Scholarship application process.
