Australia: PhD Scholarship in Mechanical Engineering, The University of Queensland
Mechanical Engineering Division, School of Engineering, The University of Queensland, St Lucia
PhD Scholarship valued at $22,000 per annum tax exempt in Mechanical Engineering Division
A School of Engineering Scholarship is available now for a PhDcandidate to work with a research team from UQ Mechanical Engineeringand Nano-Precision Mechanical Fabrication Laboratory at TohokuUniversity. The project aims to investigate the fundamentalmechanisms of deformation and removal of brittle materials usingnano-indentation and nano-scratching and to develop the nano/microgrinding technologies for those materials.
The research plan also includes the development of the pragmaticgrinding process for micro mould inserts for electronic, optic/photonicand biomedical applications. The machined components are withfeature size ranging from a few tens to a few hundreds microns withhigh dimensional accuracy and high surface integrity.
The scholarship of $18,837 per annum is for 3 years with a possible 6months extension. A supplementary scholarship is available totop-up to $22,000 per annum.
Applications are sought from candidates with a background in mechanicalor materials engineering. Applicants should possess a Hons Class1 or 2A or equivalent.
For further details on the project please contact Dr Han Huang on (07)3365 3583 or email han.huang@uq.edu.au. Send applications to Dr HanHuang, Mechanical Engineering Division, The University of Queensland,St Lucia Qld 4072, or email han.huang@uq.edu.au.
Closing date for applications: 30 September 2005
