Australia: Monash Graduate Scholarships (MGS)

Approximately 100 Monash Graduate Scholarships are offered annually. They provide a yearly non-taxable stipend of $18,484 (2004). The following are eligible to apply for the above award:

Australian citizens or permanent residents;
international students;
those who hold a bachelors degree with first class honours, or a qualification deemed equivalent, from an Australian or overseas tertiary institution;
those who wish to undertake a research masters, professional doctorate or PhD.

Awards will not be available to those who:

are in receipt of another equivalent award/scholarship/salary offering similar benefits.
have already completed a PhD or research professional doctorate or equivalent, unless there is a significant change in research direction;
have already completed a masters degree or equivalent, unless intending to undertake a PhD or research professional doctorate; or unless there is a significant change in research direction;
have previously held for more than three months a Monash Graduate Scholarship unless in the case of a PhD or research professional doctorate candidate the prior award was for a masters degree;
are enrolled or are intending to enrol as a research candidate under Monash's external mode regulations.

Application Procedures:
One application kit covers all of the abovenamed scholarships and isavailable mid August each year from departments,centres and other academic units at Monash University. The applicationkit comprises the application form and the application guide. Pleaserefer to the Specialinformation for prospective applicants before contacting the departmentfor a scholarship application form.

NOTE: Scholarship application forms are NOT available on the web or from the Research Graduate School. Applicants MUST contact the department they wish to study in to request a scholarship application form.

The original PLUS 2 COPIES of the application must be submitted, eachwith an original signature, otherwise the application is not valid.

Please read the application guide carefully. In particular, please notethe section on H1 Equivalence Procedures and the effect of priorcandidature/scholarship on the duration of awards.

Applicants are also required to provide evidence of meetingthe English language requirements by the closing date, otherwise the applicationwill be deemed INELIGIBLE.
