The aim of this bursary is to assist women to undertake and complete higher degrees by coursework at Australian universities.
Thebursary may be used for the purchase or hire of equipment, feesincurred because of study commitments, or short-term assistance withliving expenses. Note that if the bursary is to be used for thepurchase of equipment, the equipment must be for the personalpossession and use of the applicant, not of her university department. The bursary must be used within twelve months of the date of the award.Applications are invited from women who are Australian or overseascitizens and who are enrolled at an Australian university (a) arestudying for a Masters degree by coursework or are studying for aDoctorate where the major component is coursework; (b) have a goodundergraduate academic record; and (c) are not in full-time paidemployment or on fully paid study leave during the tenure of thebursary and (d) have not previously won this bursary. There is norestriction on the field of study. The bursary may be heldconcurrently with other awards.
Selection is based primarily onacademic merit, but also on financial need, how essential the purposefor which the bursary will be used is to the progress or completion ofthe degree, community activities and other interests.
The valueof the bursary is $4000. A bursary may be shared by two successfulapplicants, and special grants may be offered to runners-up ifsufficient funds are available.
