The Mathematics and Computer Science Division of Argonne National Laboratoryinvites outstanding candidates to apply for the J. H. Wilkinson Fellowship inScientific Computing.

This fellowship was created in memory of Dr. James Hardy Wilkinson, F.R.S.,who had a close association with the Mathematics and Computer Science Divisionas a consultant and guiding spirit for the EISPACK and LINPACK projects. TheWilkinson Fellowship is intended to encourage scientists actively engaged instate-of-the-art research in scientific computing. Candidates must havereceived a recent Ph.D. prior to the beginning of the appointment. Thebenefits of the appointment include a highly competitive salary, movingexpenses and a generous professional travel allowance.

The appointment will be in the Mathematics and Computer Science Division,which has strong programs in scientific computing, software tools andcomputational mathematics. Of special interest are algorithms and software forlinear algebra, optimization, differential equations, computationaldifferentiation, stochastic systems, and unstructured mesh computations;software tools for parallel computing; and numerical methods for computationalscience problems. Internationally recognized for innovative research in high-performancecomputing, the Mathematics and Computer Science Division supports an excellentcomputational environment that includes access to a scientific visualizationlaboratory and a distributed computing laboratory.
