Southeast Asia Fellowship ProgramFall 2006

The East-West Center Washington and the Institute of Southeast AsianStudies in Singapore are accepting applications from young scholars who wishto undertake research and writing on internal and international conflicts inSoutheast Asia. Applicants must be completing or have completed their Ph.D.degrees in the last seven years, be a national of a Southeast Asian country andpresently be residing in the region.

Funded by a Henry Luce Foundation grant, ISEAS Singapore, and the East-West Center, the fellowships are awarded to three scholars and finance two tothree months of field work in Southeast Asia, two months residence at ISEASin Singapore, and three months of residence in Washington, D.C. In residence,the fellows will complete a monograph or article to be published in a peerreviewedoutlet. Fellows will also participate in Southeast Asia relatedactivities in Singapore and Washington.

The fellowship award includes a small grant to cover field research, a stipendwhile in residence at ISEAS, a monthly stipend of US$3,500 to $4,000 when inresidence in Washington, D.C., and round trip economy airfare between thehome country, Singapore, and Washington, D.C.

Applications should include a cover letter, a full CV, two letters of reference,and a research proposal of not more than ten pages (double spaced). Theproposal should set out the problem or hypothesis to be investigated, a reviewof the relevant literature, the contribution to be made by the research,methodology, planned field work, time frame, and proposed product.
