USA: Postdoctoral Researcher Position in Data Assimilation at Virginia Tech
The goal of the joint project between Virginia Tech and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory is to build the computational tools, and associated software, needed for 4D-Var data assimilation with the GEOS-Chem chemical transport model. The project will develop an adjoint GEOS-Chem model; will develop, analyze, and assess optimization tools, algorithms for targeting observations, algorithms for high order sensitivity analysis, and other algorithms needed in the context of variational data assimilation; and will run simulations using real data sets.
Applicants should have expertise and research interests in computational science, numerical analysis, and parallel computing. Experience with data assimilation or inverse problems and with adjoint code development is a strong plus.
Interested candidates should contact directly Prof. Adrian Sandu (sandu@cs.vt.edu).
