Experienced Electrophysiologists to Investigate the Microcircuits of Energy Balance, Motivated Behavior, and Autism

Two Harvard postdoctoral positions are available in the Anderson Laboratory at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, MA. In collaboration with the Flier Research Laboratory, we have an exciting project using novel electrophysiology techniques to study the neural mechanisms that contribute to feeding, obesity, and motivated behavior (Fulton et al. Leptin regulation of the mesoaccumbens dopamine pathway. Neuron, 2006). With the support of the Nancy Lurie Marks Foundation, we also have an exciting new project investigating the neural origins of autism. We have already generated new transgenic mouse models of both autism and epilepsy that are ready to study (e.g., Anderson et al. PNAS, 2005, also unpublished).

These positions are for highly-motivated and self-driven individuals. Help us pioneer novel in vivo patch-clamp recording techniques. Explore our multidisciplinary approaches, including techniques in slice electrophysiology, adult neurogenesis (Kokoeva et al. Neurogenesis in the hypothalamus of adult mice: potential role in energy balance. Science, 2005), neural stem cell transplants (in progress), mouse genetics, behavioral analysis, and proteomics. These positions require An MD or PhD degree and experience either performing acute brain slice patch-clamp or in vivo tetrode wire recording. Send CV, statement of research interests, and contact information for three references.

To apply, please send a CV, a brief statement of career goals, and contact details of three references to Matthew P. Anderson, MD, PhD (mpanders[ at ]bidmc.harvard.edu)
