USA: Postdoctoral Position in Computational Science at San Diego State University
This position is funded by an NIH NIDDK New InterdisciplinaryWorkforce (NIW) grant to SDSU’s Computational Science Research Center(CSRC). Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Computational Science or arelated discipline (e.g. Mathematics, Computer Science, BiologicalSciences, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or Engineering) with a strongrelevance to the biomedical sciences.
The successful candidate will interact with one or more CSRCDiscovery Teams, each consisting of two or three faculty members fromdifferent academic disciplines, two or more predoctoral students andtwo or more undergraduates. Current Teams in the NIW program includemitochondrial architecture (Profs. Frey, Salamon, Baljon, Mahaffy,Blomgren), phage genetics and community structural analysis (Profs.Rohwer, Segall, Salamon, Edwards, Mahaffy), mammalian cardiac cellgene expression and physiology (Profs. Paolini, Valafar, Castillo),(2) Heart and Motility (Profs May-Newman, Sabbadini Versi andPaolini, Biology and a bioinformatics, sequence and patternclassification (Profs. Kelley, Edwards, Chen, Roch, Paolini).
The successful candidate will participate in interdisciplinaryactivities, including collaboration with computational biologistsacross a number of departments within the Colleges of Science andEngineering. Teaching experience within interdisciplinary science,engineering or applied mathematics; including experience withextramural funding agencies is desirable. In addition, (s)he shouldpossess a strong foundation in computational biology.
