USA: Conservation Science Fellowships
Fellowships are available at the Smithsonian Center for MaterialsResearch and Education (SCMRE) for research relevant to the care,preservation, and conservation of museum collections. The areas ofinterest typically include the composition of museum objects as theyrelate to their deterioration and the study of materials anddeterioration mechanisms as they relate to methods for preservation. Allscientific disciplines are relevant, but proposals from the perspectivesof materials science, engineering, and chemistry will be especiallyconsidered. Successful applicants will be chosen on the basis of theirsubmitted research proposals.
Pre-doctoral fellowships may be available; applications will also beaccepted from persons with a degree or certificate of advanced trainingin the conservation of artifacts or art objects.

Smithsonian Center for Materials Research andEducation-Postgraduate Fellowships and Pre-graduate Internships in Archaeological Conservation
Fellowships and pre-graduate internships in archaeological conservationavailable for recent graduates of academic conservation trainingprograms or students in their final (practical) year of studies at suchprograms. These one-year fellowships, to be spent at Smithsonian-relatedarchaeological field work sites and at SCMRE, usually start in the fall.
