UK: Visiting Research Fellowships in Humanities and Social Sciences
Applications are invited for Visiting Research Fellowships of betweentwo and six months, tenable in the period: June 2006 - September 2008.No limitation is placed on the area of research within the Humanitiesand Social Sciences but priority will be given to those whose workfalls within the scope of one of the Institute current Research Themes:
* Life Writing, Testimony and Self-Construction
* Diasporas, Migrations and Identities
* Institutions and Oppositions of Enlightenment
* The Humanities in the Twenty-First Century University
The Institute is housed in an 18th century courtyard close to theUniversity Library and about 20 scholars are in residence at any time.Fellows are allocated a private office in the Institute with all theusual research facilities and are expected to play a full part in theactivities of the Institute. They are also encouraged to develop theircontacts with colleagues within the College of Humanities and SocialScience. They give at least one seminar on their current research workduring their tenure. The Fellowships are not funded.

NOTES:
1. Candidates for Fellowships will normally hold a doctorate.Consideration will be given to the academic record and the publicationsof all applicants and their capacity to disseminate their views among acommunity of like-minded people. Candidates should give evidence of anycontact they have made with researchers at the University of Edinburgh,and of proposed collaboration during their visit to Edinburgh; thosewho do make such contact before submitting their applications will beat an advantage.
2. The Institute was established in 1970 to promote enquiry of thehighest standards in the Humanities, broadly conceived.Inter-departmental and inter-disciplinary study is encouraged. Allapplications should state clearly the relationship of the proposedscheme of work to one or more of the current Research Themes of theInstitute.
3. Fellows are expected to be resident in Edinburgh throughout thetenure of their Fellowship and to play a full part in the activities ofthe Institute. The Institute will be pleased to help with findingsuitable accommodation in Edinburgh. The minimum tenure for aFellowship is two months; applications for less than two months willnot be considered.
4. No regular teaching is required but Fellows usually give at least one seminar on their current research work.
5. The Institute is close to the University Library and within easyreach of the National Library of Scotland, the Central City Library,the National Galleries and Museums, the Library of the Society ofAntiquaries in Scotland, the library of the Royal College of Physiciansof Edinburgh, and the National Archives of Scotland.
6. Only fully completed applications will be considered. It is theresponsibility of each applicant to ensure that all documentation iscomplete, and that referees submit their reports to the Institute bythe closing date. Applications may include examples of their articlesor other publications, but this is not a requirement.
