UK: Two 3-Year Postdoc Positions (CFD/Waves/Turbulent Flow), University of Plymouth
POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH POSITIONS: ENSEMBLE PREDICTION OF INUNDATION RISK AND UNCERTAINTY ARISING FROM SCOUR (EPIRUS), UNIVERSITY OF PLYMOUTH, UK.
Salary range: £24161 to £31525 per year + benefits
Applications are invited for two three-year Post-Doctoral research positions. The successful candidates will be expected to develop an integrated process model to predict water level change, beach morphology, wave overtopping and scour in front of coastal structure during extreme events. Existing models already available within the group include state of the art RANS and SPH codes.
The work undertaken at Plymouth is being led by Dr Qingping Zou and Professor Dominic Reeve and forms part of a larger project effort involving the University of Bristol, University of Liverpool and Proudman Oceanographic Laboratory. The objective of the project is to develop a ‘clouds-to-coast’ ensemble modelling framework of overtopping and scour of UK coastal defences in the context of climate change and the growing role of extreme events and to improve the capacity for predicting coastal flood risk. These positions are available as part of the prestigious Flood Risk from Extreme Events (FREE) Programme funded by the Natural Environmental Research Council (NERC) (http://www.nerc.ac.uk/research/programmes/free/).
You should have a PhD in computational fluid dynamics (CFD), coastal oceanography/engineering, applied mathematics, physics, engineering, or other closely related field. Experience of scientific programming in FORTRAN and/or MATLAB is essential. Knowledge of hydrodynamics, coastal dynamics/engineering would be an advantage. Experience with numerical modelling, parallel computing and Linux platform is desirable. You will be affiliated with the Centre for Coastal Dynamics and Engineering (C-CoDE), which is the largest group of coastal researchers in the UK (http://www.research.plymouth.ac.uk/c-code/).
Please see http://www.jobs.ac.uk/jobfiles/QF952.html for more information regarding these positions and an application form. Informal enquiries may be made to Dr Qingping Zou on 01752 233698 or email qingping.zou@plymouth.ac.uk.
