UK: Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Nonlinear Waveguide Components for Quantum Processing
We are searching for a postdoctoral scientist with experience insome of the following areas: optical waveguides, nonlinear optics, quantum sources, optical waveguide fabrication, experimental quantumoptics. The position is for three years.
The project aims to implement the required technology employinghighly integrated optics devices rather than the more traditional bulkoptics approach where one arranges individual optical elements on anoptical table. This approach avoids many of the problems that bulkoptics suffers and also permits more general ways to code andmanipulate information. We aim to explore the use of this noveltechnology for quantum information processing both experimentally andtheoretically to develop novel methods for quantum informationprocessing and to demonstrate the feasibility of basic quantuminformation processing in such arrangements. The work is collaborativewith Oxford University (Prof Ian Walmsley) and Imperial College (ProfMartin Plenio), and the appointee will be expected to liaise closelywith these groups.
The work at the ORC will concentrate on the fabrication ofnonlinear waveguides circuits using cleanroom and direct UV techniques.
Salary: From £22774 to £28000 pa at Level 4 on our Education, Research and Enterprise Job Family
Duration: Up to 3yrs
Experimental experience required in some or all of the following areas:
Nonlinear optics, optical waveguide fabrication, experimentalquantum optics, cleanroom fabrication, optical waveguidecharacterisation
Investigators: Professor Peter Smith
Dr Neil Broderick
