Salary in the range: £22,116 - £32,232 inclusive per annum

Applicationsare invited for a postdoctoral research position beginning 1 October2005 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post will be in UpscalingMultiphase Fluid Flow through Fractured Porous Media. Multiphase fluidflow in fractured hydrocarbon-saturated rock involves a range ofphysical processes that depend on rock properties that vary by manyorders of magnitude in space and time. This is part of anindustrially-funded project on improved simulation of fracturedreservoirs.

The appointment will be for an initial period of twelve months.

Theresearcher will work in a challenging research field to analyse thescale variance of multiphase fluid flow by numerical simulationsconducted on realistic CAD models of 3D fracture geometries mapped inanalogue and actual reservoirs.

You will have a PhDon the topic of multiphase fluid flow in porous media. Candidatesshould have good understanding of the geological properties ofhydrocarbon reservoirs and their natural scale variance andheterogeneity. You should also be proficient in the C++ programminglanguage and its application to numerical method development. You willhave considerable scope to design and implement your own work programmeand to be in charge of monthly, quarterly and annual reports. Thecandidate should be an efficient communicator liaising with others inthe department ( http://www.ese.ic.ac.uk ).
