UK: Postdoctoral Fellowships in Theoretical Computer Science, Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC)

EPSRC’s Physics, Information and Communications Technologies (ICT), Mathematical Sciences and Life Sciences Interface (LSI) Programmes are offering Postdoctoral Fellowships to enable the most talented new researchers to establish an independent research career, shortly or immediately after completing a PhD.

The Physics, Information and Communications Technologies Programme operates a Postdoctoral Fellowship scheme for talented researchers working in the broad area of theoretical computer science. The fellowships are given to enable the most talented young researchers to establish an independent research career, shortly or immediately after completing a PhD.

Fellowships may be held at any UK university or similar research organisation. A fellowship can provide an ideal opportunity to change organisation and gain wider experience, and applicants are advised and encouraged to do so unless there is a sound argument against such a move.

It is expected that part of the fellow’s time, up to a maximum of 12 months, may be spent in another appropriate academic research organisation in the United Kingdom or overseas, or in industry.

Proposals that are simply an extension of the applicant’s PhD project will be given low priority.

The awards are for a period of up to three years and cover the salary costs of the fellow as well as equipment and travel and subsistence.

There are no nationality or age restrictions on who may apply for a fellowship.

Candidates should have less than three years’ postdoctoral experience (fewer than three years should have passed since the candidates PhD was officially confirmed by the university’s degrees board at the time of the closing date for applications). Applicants who are still completing their PhD must have been awarded the degree by December 31, 2008.

Candidates must not hold permanent academic posts.

Closing Date: 4pm, Tuesday 2 October 2007
