UK: Postdoc in Text Mining for Biology

POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE IN TEXT MINING FOR BIOLOGY
TheSchool of Informatics of the University of Manchester inviteapplications for a postdoctoral research post in the area of TextMining for biology. The post is part of a BBSRC-funded project “ Mining term associations from literature to support knowledge discovery in biology â€ÂÂwhich aims to use text mining and machine learning techniques to assistscientists in extracting knowledge from the literature. Researchundertaken within this project is closely related to the activities ofthe National Centre for Text Mining (NaCTeM) and the ManchesterInterdisciplinary Biocentre (MIB).
The successfulcandidate will preferably have (or be about to obtain) a PhD incomputer science, bioinformatics or a related discipline, and will haverelevant research experience in machine learning, text and data mining,shallow and statistical NLP, or information extraction. Goodprogramming skills (in C, C++, Java or Perl), as well as experiencewith XML, SQL and UNIX are highly desirable.
The appointment is for up to 36 months, starting from October 1, 2005 or shortly thereafter.
Salary:
range £19,460 - £29,128 p.a. dependant upon experience.
