We seek to recruit a post-doctoral scientist with experience in molecular biology to initiate a new project investigating the role of large scale RNA secondary structure in the replication and pathogenesis of mammalian RNA viruses. Investigations will centre around the use of a variety of biophysical and mapping methods to investigate the nature of the secondary structure in a range of RNA viruses, and on the activation of dsRNA recognition pathways by structured and unstructured RNA transcripts. The appointee will work as part of a larger team of scientist supervised by Peter Simmonds at the Centre for Infectious Diseases in Edinburgh, and David Evans at the University of Glasgow investigating the role of structured RNA elements in the replication of RNA viruses and other aspects of viral pathogenesis, as well as in RNA virus evolution and epidemiology.
