UK: Post-doctoral Research Associate in Numerical Simulations of Combustion


A position exists for a Post-doctoral Research Associate to work on Direct Numerical Simulations and modelling of turbulent combustion. The project is funded by the Department of Trade and Industry and involves close collaboration with Rolls-Royce plc. The aim of the project is to simulate ignition and flame propagation in the presence of strong mixture inhomogeneities, with ultimate outcome a better understanding of gas turbine high-altitude relight processes. The successful candidate will have a first degree in engineering or physical sciences and a PhD in combustion. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in CFD and combustion modelling.

The appointment will be for up to 12 months starting on 1st October 2005 or as soon as possible thereafter but no later than 1 December 2005. Starting salary is on the RA1A scale, in the range £19,460 to £29,127 p.a. depending on age and qualifications.
