Psychology PhD Studentship Optimising decision making in obstetrics teamsDepartment of Natural and Social Sciences
The Department of Natural and Social Sciences is expanding its research baseby offering a PhD studentship funded under the Great Western Researchscheme.
The studentship will be available from February 2007 and will involve astudy into optimising decision making in obstetrics teams. Studentsapplying for the post will be registered for a PhD with the University ofGloucestershire but will conduct much of the research in situ at UnitedBristol Healthcare Trust. The studentship is available for a period ofthree years, subject to satisfactory progress and attracts a stipend of£12,500 pa plus fees with further funds available for travel andconsumables.
Applicants should have a good honours, or higher, degree in Psychology.They should also have a good knowledge of advanced statistical procedurescombined with the ability and willingness to engage with other mathematicalapproaches in general, and signal detection theory in particular. Knowledgeof research in decision-making and the use of heuristics is also essential.This is a demanding project involving working closely with professionalmedical practitioners in an obstetrics environment. Potential applicantsshould thus be able to demonstrate a proven ability to work in a setting ofthis kind and should have some experience of research in such an appliedsetting.
