TWAS Research Professors

The objective of the programme is to provide institutions and research groups located in Least Developed Countries (LDCs)with the opportunity to establish long-term links with TWAS members toassist in research activities and advanced training and so help developthe local scientific capacities needed.

Within the framework of the programme, a number ofTWAS Members will be offered appointments as TWAS Research Professorsin Least Developed Countries. The appointment will normally be for aperiod of five years, during which the TWAS Research Professor will beexpected to visit the host institution three times for a minimum stayof one month each time. Both the TWAS Research Professor and the hostinstitution will be expected to provide comprehensive reports oncompletion of each visit.

Economy class travel (round-trip) and any additionaltravel expenses incurred by the TWAS Research Professor will beprovided by TWAS as well as an honorarium. The host institution will beexpected to cover local expenses.

The TWAS Research Professor will be expected tointeract closely with members of the host institution with the aim ofstrengthening its existing activities and/or assisting in theestablishment of new lines of research. The TWAS Research Professor mayalso be requested to deliver a series of topical lectures and seminarsto research students.

Institutions in Least Developed Countries wishing tobe considered for this programme should fill in the relevant section ofthe request form. Information about the subject areas of currentinterest of the host institution should be provided and the name of theTWAS member who might be considered for the appointment.

Requests

• Requests are accepted from research groups and scientific institutions in Least Developed Countries (LDCs) wishing to receive a TWAS member.
• Blank forms can be obtained from the TWAS secretariat or downloaded via the link below, and must be completed in English.
• Part A of the application form should be completed by the head ofthe host institution in a Least Developed Country and sent to the TWASSecretariat.
• Part B of the form should be forwarded by the inviting institutionto the nominated TWAS Research Professor for him/her to complete andsend to TWAS.
• Deadline for receipt of applications at TWAS Secretariat is 30 October of each year.
