TWAS offers fellowships to young scientists indeveloping countries to enable them to spend between three and twelvemonths at a research institution in a developing country other thantheir own. The purpose of these fellowships is to enhance the researchcapacity of promising scientists, especially those at the beginning oftheir research career, helping them to foster linkages for furthercollaboration
Eligibility
- The fellowships are for research and advanced training. They areoffered to young scientists holding an M.Sc. or equivalent degree.
- Eligible applicants for the fellowships are young scientistsworking in any area of natural sciences who are citizens of adeveloping country and are employed by a research institution in adeveloping country.
- There is no age limit. However, preference will be given to youngscientists at the beginning of their research careers and those workingin Least Developed Countries.
Terms of the Fellowships
- The fellowships are offered for a minimum period of three months and a maximum of twelve months.
- TWAS covers international low-cost airfare plus a contributiontowards subsistence amounting to a maximum of US$300.00 per month. Noother costs will be provided by TWAS.
- The host institution will provide accommodation and food as well as research facilities.
Application and Selection Procedure
- Fellowships are awarded by the TWAS Fellowship Committee on the basis of scientific merit.
- Applications should be typewritten in English.
- Part 1 of the application form should be completed by theapplicant and the head of the applicant's institution, and sent* to theTWAS secretariat. Material requested:
- the completed application form;
- the applicant's curriculum vitae;
- full list of publications (do not enclose actual articles), and
- the quotation of a travel agent or airline for the least expensive airfare to destination.
- Inaddition, letters of recommendation must be submitted separately toTWAS by two referees who are familiar with the applicant's work.
- Part 2, together with a copy of Part 1, must be sent bythe applicant to the head of the institution he/she intends to visit.Part 2 should then be filled out by the head of that institution andsent* to the TWAS secretariat.
- The closing date for receipt of applications is 1 October of each year. Results will be announced approximately two months later.
* By post or fax. Submission by e-mail is restrictedto scanned images of the form, which must be completed and signed.Applications that are unsigned, incomplete, illegible or filled out ina language other than English will not be considered.
