The Netherlands: Posdoc Research Position on Social Cohesion For The Project Equalsoc

The AIAS (Amsterdam Instute for Advanced Labour Studies), University of Amsterdam, offers a Post-doctoral fellowship to someone with a background in sociology or political science, to work on issues around labour markets, welfare states, values, organizations, and political preferences. The researcher will be part of an EU-funded Network of Excellence called EQUALSOC, which connects thirteen well-known research centres across Europe, including Nuffield College Oxford, the Mannheim Zentrum fur Europaische Sozialforschung, and the Swedish Institute for Social Research in Stockholm. The candidate has some freedom in developing the research agenda, provided that it fits into the EQUALSOC network, and in particular into its Research Group “Trust, Associations, and Legitimacy”.

While primarily focused on research, the job will include assistance with coordinating the international research network. Teaching is optional and can at maximum involve 0.2 fte.

What we offer:

  • a stimulating, small-scale and interdisciplinary working environment with a strong involvement in international research projects and networking in the field of labour and institutions, internationalisation and inequalities (see http://www.uva-aias.net for information about AIAS or http://www.equalsoc.org for more information on Equalsoc);
  • a gross monthly salary of between € 2191 and € 4049 (scales 10 to 11);

Candidates should:

  • hold a Ph.D. in sociology, political science or a related discipline;
  • have excellent skills in quantitative research methodology, preferably expressed through publications in international academic journals or working papers;
  • be fluent in English (both written and spoken).
