The Netherlanad: Postdoc in 60 GHz Radio Technology for Ultra-broadband Wireless Networks

Closing date: January 31, 2006

The Technische Universiteit Eindhoven (TU/e) has the following vacancyPost-Doc “60 GHz radio technology for ultra-broadband wireless networks” (V36.283)at Department of Electrical Engineering.

The Department of Electrical Engineering concerns the research and education of the Electrical Engineering discipline. Electrical Engineering covers the application of electrical phenomena with respect to energy transfer, telecommunication, and calculation and processing of information and the technology involved. Both hardware, in the form of electronic circuits and accessories, and software, in the form of system software for electro-technical application, are the subject of study. Existing and new electrical components and systems are analyzed, designed and realized. In addition, the maintenance of these systems is the subject of research, as is the relevance for society of electrical engineering and informatics.

ECR is part of the Department TTE (Telecommunication Technology and Electromagnetics), which is a member of the research school COBRA. It covers the areas of antennas, propagation, and system technology for broadband wireless communication. The research program aims at achieving a balance between the study of fundamental aspects of radio transmission and communication and the application of the results in the development of communication systems. As part of the research program an IOP GenCom project is carried out that aims at defining a new low-cost radio technology that utilizes the license-free 60 GHz band. The expected end result is a laboratory setup that demonstrates ultra-fast data transport on the basis of a 60 GHz technology that is potentially suited for low-cost mass production. The project is carried out in close cooperation with Delft University of Technology, TNO and Philips.

Tasks
The post doc will be involved in the above mentioned project both as project manager and as researcher. About 30% of the time will be dedicated to the project management tasks which concern project organization and coordination, project reporting and coordination of dissemination of information in collaboration with the management team. The rest of the time will be devoted to 60 GHz propagation and scenario research which aims at identifying scenarios of interest, optimizing 60 GHz channel conditions for the identified scenarios, charting out the properties of the 60 GHz channel and evaluating the performance of adaptive antenna array algorithms for 60 GHz radio.

Requirements
As a post-doc you have a thorough background in wireless communication in general and in radio propagation in particular, which you have demonstrated in your PhD thesis and scientific papers. You have a proven ability in evaluating experimental data in comparison with theory. You combine an excellent scientific talent with a sound feeling for applicability in practice. You are creative and a team player. You have excellent communicative skills and are fluent in English.

Appointment and Salary
We offer: a full-time contract for four years, with a gross salary of maximally € 3472,00 per month in the final year.Attractive secondary job conditions.
