Swiss: Research Scholarship to a Young Researcher from a Developing Country


The International Research and Consulting Centre of the Institute of Federalism, with the financial support of the SDC (Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation), offers a research scholarship to a young researcher from a developing country, with priority given to Southern Africa, South and South East Asia, or South Eastern Europe.

Application Deadline: October 31, 2005

We offer: A research scholarship to a young researcher for a research project in the fields of federalism, decentralisation, constitutionalism, rule of law, or governance, with conflict transformation and multiculturalism as potential cross-cutting themes. The young researcher will be provided with adequate financial means for his or her stay in Switzerland, as well as transportation to and from Switzerland. The researcher is welcome to use the infrastructure of the Institute of Federalism and its library. When possible, participation at conferences and seminars will be welcomed.

  • Length of stay: 3 months
  • Timeframe: between 01.01.2006 and 31.12.2006 (exact dates to be determined)

We expect: That the young research posses a degree in Law, Political Science, Economics, Philosophy, History, or Sociology. Four years of university studies at least and further research experience will be required. Doctorate or equivalent diploma is of advantage. With the application the candidate must present a comprehensive research project. Proficiency in English, French, or German is compulsory. For those not fluent in English, active knowledge of English is required. The research paper must be done in English, French or German.

The researcher is expected to work at the Institute on their research project and to prepare a research paper, which will be published by the Institute of Federalism in the Working Papers series if it fulfils the quality requirements of the Institute. During the stay she or he will report periodically on the progress achieved.
