Sweden: Postdoctoral Position in Molecular Neurobiology, Umea University


A postdoctoral fellowship to study the molecular biology of the sensory neurons that are detecting odor in mammals, is available in the laboratory of Dr. A. Berghard at the Department of Molecular Biology, Umea University, Sweden.

We use mouse as a model and molecular, molecular genetic and behavior analyses to address the functional organization of the olfactory sensory neurons and their projections. The Department of Molecular Biology has state-of-the-art resources for molecular/cellular biology and microscopic techniques. The faculty has several relevant core facilities such as a transgenic production facility.

Umea is a one hour flight from the capital Stockholm and the University has 29,000 students, >150 receives a PhD per year and the University is one of Scandinavias top research Universities. Umea is quite international and a good knowledge of English is enough for every-day life (see also www.umu.se/international_office). The fellowship is available immediately and intended for 2 years (with possibility for prolongation for 1 year) and the initial support is in the range 16 000 18 000 SEK/month in the form of a tax-free stipend.

Requirements:
The applicant must hold a PhD-degree. Previous experience with the mouse, molecular genetics, histology and/or neuroscience are considered as merits. Interested individuals should submit a mandatory 1-2 page personal description of the candidates research interests, a curriculum vitae and name plus email of 2 reference persons whose relation to the candidate should be explained.
