CNIO-CAJA NAVARRA INTERNATIONAL POSTDOCTORAL PROGRAMME, 2009 CALL

The CNIO-Caja Navarra International Postdoctoral Programme 2009 is calling for highly motivated individuals to apply for training within the CNIO’s research programmes on Molecular Oncology, Cancer Cell Biology, Structural Biology and Biocomputing, Molecular Pathology and Human Cancer Genetics.

ELIGIBILITY

• Applicants must hold a PhD or MD degree before the start of the fellowship but not necessarily when applying.
• The date when the degree was awarded must be no more than 2 years ago at the time of application.
• Applicants must have a proven record of research accomplishments and at least one original first author publication (including joint authorship), either published or accepted, in an international peer-reviewed journal with a high impact factor at the time of application.
• The upper age limit for eligibility is 35 years.
• This call is open to applicants from all nationalities. We particularly encourage applicants who have done their thesis outside Spain to apply.
• Candidates must have a solid working knowledge of English.
• Researchers who have carried out their doctoral thesis (or any part of it) at the CNIO will not be eligible.
• Candidates who are already at the CNIO at the time of the final decision will be excluded.

GENERAL CONDITIONS

• Selected candidates will be directly contracted by the CNIO for a period of two years and in accordance to Spanish laws and regulations.
• Contracts must be started within one calendar year from the closing date for applications.
• During the duration of the contract, employees must devote themselves entirely to research at the CNIO and may not be the beneficiary of any other fellowship, grant, stipend or regular income.
• Employees will be included in the general Spanish social security system, which will entitle them to a pension, unemployment benefit, sick pay, maternity pay and the right to receive free healthcare.
• This contract does not imply any obligation on the part of the CNIO regarding further incorporation of the employee in its staff.
• For this call there will be a minimum of three and a maximum of six positions available.

FUNDING AND BENEFITS
Postdoctoral researchers hired under the CNIO-Caja Navarra International Postdoctoral Programme will perceive a maximum global remuneration of 32,000 - 36,000 Euros (gross) per year. They will have a starting global remuneration according to their experience at the time of the application deadline and in accordance with the CNIO-Caja Navarra 2009 salary scale. After one year in the entry level, the salary will be adjusted to the next level.

CNIO-Caja Navarra postdocs will be entitled to all benefits available to CNIO employees. These include paid vacation days, paid leave for personal business, paid leave of absence, subsidized meals, subsidized childcare and aids for studying Spanish or English.

Expenses associated with the interview: Applicants invited for interview will be able to claim for reasonable travel expenses (including air fares) together with overnight accommodation.

DURATION
The position will be awarded for a period of up to 24 months, depending on a positive interim evaluation by the supervisor (12 months after the starting date).
