Postdoctoral Research Assistant

Spatial and temporal genetic structuring of Edible crab populations

Applications are invited for a PDRA position in the laboratory of Dr Paul Shaw to work on a DEFRA funded study into population genetic structuring of edible crab (Cancer pagurus) in the English Channel. In addition to the definition of stock structuring the project will address fundamental issues such as the effects on gene flow of hydrography, larval dispersal and adult migration.

The PDRA will be expected to apply microsatellite marker and mtDNA sequencing approaches. Applicants should have proven experience in population genetics / evolutionary biology and ideally will possess expertise in the molecular methods stated, although some training can be provided.

The post is for a fixed period of 3 years. The provisional start date is 1st January 2005 (negotiable). The appointment will be on the RA1A scale, starting salary up to £26,954 per annum inclusive.
